Postgreen Homes and Equinox Partner to Build Eco-Friendly Housing in Francisville Philadelphia
August 1, 2013 – Philadelphia, PA
Postgreen Homes and Equinox Management & Construction LLC today announce a partnership to develop a 31 unit mixed use development occupying the majority of the 1700 block of Folsom Street in the vibrant community of Francisville Philadelphia. The project, named Folsom Powerhouse, is being developed at 18th & Folsom Streets on a site awarded by the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority (PRA).
“Folsom Powerhouse embodies the Redevelopment Authority’s commitment to thriving mixed-income neighborhoods,” said Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority Interim Executive Director Brian Abernathy. “By selecting Postgreen and Equinox to develop this parcel, PRA is making a commitment to a sustainable and vibrant Francisville.”
Postgreen and Equinox have each had success in Philadelphia’s eco-friendly housing market, with LEED and AIA award-winning projects in Philadelphia such as the 100K House and The Modules at Templetown. “This new partnership is an effort to combine forces in creating responsible, sustainable and exciting housing for Philadelphia residents, while also contributing to the dynamic revitalization of Francisville”, said Jonathan Weiss, President of Equinox. “With our expertise in efficient design and construction, Folsom Powerhouse is our answer to the City’s request for mixed use and mixed income housing in a desirable neighborhood just minutes from Center City”. The project is designed by ISA architects, with landscape design by Studio Bryan Hanes, while First Savings Bank is providing financing for the project.
While the Folsom Powerhouse community will attract varying income levels, residents will all have one similar interest – ecological urbanism. The developers are committed to energy efficient design, with solar power, green roof technology and advanced storm water management practices. Folsom’s design offers a community driven living style, high-quality modern architecture, and a warm, welcoming streetscape.
The 1700 block of Folsom Street is centrally located one block from Fairmount Avenue’s commercial corridor, four blocks from the subway, and across the street from the Francisville Park, pool, and community center. The area’s best attractions are just steps away, featuring Philly Flavors, Mugshots, Route 6, Alla Spina and the neighborhood’s best coffee shops.
“Our proposal adapted Folsom’s fabric and the City’s best practices in urban planning”, explained Chad Ludeman, President of Postgreen Homes. “The Powerhouse name is indicative of our commitment to extreme energy efficiency, giving residents the power to live with community and environmental consciousness in mind”.
